Running Journey

Training with structure, one run at a time

Running is where I practise what I do at work: set a clear goal, follow a structure, review honestly and adjust. This page tracks my training, my races and what I'm learning along the way.

Current goals

The targets I'm working towards

Sub-20 5km

Building speed and consistency over the short distance.

Sub-1:40 half marathon

Structured training towards a faster 21.1km.

First full marathon in 2027

The next big step, and the longest road yet.

How I train

A simple structure, followed consistently

I run two to three times a week. A typical week has a tempo run, a long run and an easy run, with speed and hill sessions added when the plan calls for it. I use my running data to check that my paces match the plan, instead of guessing.

Lessons from running

What running has taught me

01

Structure beats motivation.

Showing up consistently matters more than any single session.

02

Review honestly.

After my half marathon, I worked out why I faded late in the race: fuelling and hydration, not fitness. I'm fixing that in training before the next race.

03

Preparation can't be faked.

The same goes for building systems: the groundwork decides the result.

What's next

The road to a first full marathon

A first full marathon in 2027, with more races along the way. I'll keep adding race recaps here.
